Rick Metzler's work lies within the violent
tension between solid gestural space and the vastness of mesmerizing
color fields. Metzler was born in Santa Monica, CA. during the
advent of Abstract Expressionism, and studied at the Chouinard
Art Institute where he was inspired in particular by the acclaimed
Matsumi Kanemitsu and Emerson Woelffer. His commitment to intuition
and self-expression is masterfully combined with calligraphic
brushwork, creating a visual journey which is both introspective
and spiritual. Metzler has exhibited extensively in: Laguna Beach
and Los Angeles, CA., New York, NY., Dallas, TX., Reno and Las
Vegas, NV. His numerous awards have most recently included Best
of Show at the Contemporary Arts Center in Las Vegas.
